During the Winter Holiday Season of 2022, one of my friends bought me
a box of 51 shellac records from an antique store, for a very reasonable
price. Upon inspection of the records, we quickly found that many of them
were much older than we expected, with the oldest being from around 1908!
Naturally, I did as much as I could to find information on each of the
records now in my possession, however it was difficult to find digitized
versions of every single one on Youtube. Hence, that same friend and I decided
that we would digitize them ourselves, and upload them to our own channel!
Fast-forward several years, and we finally got around to doing it, and many have
already been uploaded to the channel as of early 2026. The most unusual of the
bunch is one called "Van Speaking" which is a short speech by a man named Curtis
W. Van De Mark, who as far as I can tell, was basically a conman who scammed many
Americans in the early 20th century by selling them overpriced goods through his
pyramid scheme of a company known as Health-O. I could not find any information on
the record itself, and as far as I know, the only known digital recording is on my
channel. So that's pretty neat.
Below is a chart detailing which songs have already been digitized, 28 of which have
already been uploaded as of the time of writing. Green means digitized, red means not,
yellow means the disc is damaged, and crossed out means the disc is broken beyond repair.
